Pennsylvania has historically ranked first or second in the number of State and Local Police Departments. Over the last two to three years many Pennsylvania Local Departments have been consolidated or closed. The US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2018 survey (the last 10 year survey conducted) found Pennsylvania had 995 State and Local Law Enforcement agencies as compared to 1,117 in the 2008 survey. Unit the next survey is conducted Pennsylvania will rank second to the State of Texas in the number of State and Local law Enforcement Agencies

– Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation
PLEAC was formed in 2001 by the Pennsylvania Chiefs Association. PLEAC was developed to professionalize Law Enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania. To date One Hundred and Sixty-Seven agencies have been accredited members. Click on PLEAC logo to see all 167 accredited agencies.

– ADVANCED TRAINING FOR PENNSYLVANIA LAW ENFORCEMENT IN 2024
Training is provided by the Pennsylvania State Police Academies
Training Course Curriculum – 145 Law Enforcement related subjects covering all aspects of the profession from “Active Attack Integrated Response” to “Written Communication”. The Advanced Training is one of the most comprehensive police training programs in the nation. The training is held at the Regional Pennsylvania State Police Academies.
