– – – – – The Roxbury Murders
In 1979, from January 29th through May 7th,, twelve Boston Area murders were “dubbed,” by the print media as The Roxbury Murders due to the first two cases being committed in the Roxbury section of Boston. Eleven victims were Black Females and 1 victim was a White Female. In six of the cases, law enforcement made apprehensions. The print media downplayed the murders and, as a result, were severely criticized by the Black Community in and around Boston. To this day, the remaining cases remain unsolved.

– – – – – The New Bedford Murders
Twelve women were killed in New Bedford from March 1988 to April 1989. The women killed were suggested to be “Sex” workers. Seven bodies were discovered to be in bad shape to determine the cause of the type of assault. Two men were eventually questioned and indicted for one or more of the murders. One died before being brought to trial, and the other had to be released due to the lack of evidence. Of the 12 women murdered, only one was ‘white.’ The murders brought an outcry from the New Bedford Black Community for more police protection.
